Instagram code shows unreleased voice and video calling features

In December of last year news came out that Instagram was working on a separate app called Direct. Direct would be a new feature which lets you send messages, share photos, videos, post stories and send disappearing photos and videos with your friends. Downloading the Direct app will remove all the features from the core Instagram app on your phone, which makes it a lot less cluttered.

It seems that Instagram is looking to even add more features to Direct, by adding the ability to use free voice and video calls. Buried deeply within the code of the Instagram app images were found that look like video and phone call icons. Instagram seems to be taking Snapchat head on by separating the Direct features from the core Instagram app. Instagram Stories alone for example have already surpassed the amount of Snapchat users.

Even though Instagram is still testing all these features internally, there is no timeframe on when these new features are going to be rolled out to the public.
